Volunteer Opportunities:
Nursery/Primary School Teaching
We have four Nursery/Primary Schools that are available for students to volunteer. Three of the schools are typical schools for average children and one school is specialized for older children who have never had the opportunity to attend school and need to learn the basics.
Nursery schools classes in Cameroon are the equivalent of a Pre-school class in America. Primary Schools are the equivalent of a Elementary School in America but they go through sixth grade instead of fifth. Students will be able to teach classes in conjunction with local Cameroonian teachers. They will also have the opportunity to "train" the locals with some of their knowledge.
Tutoring juveniles within the local Prison
Our local prison has juveniles 13-21 that are housed in a separate cell from the adults. There is currently no formal education for these youth. Volunteers may tutor with any subject but there is a particular need for Reading, Englis and Math. The prison is an extremely safe environment for volunteers. Our local staff and our permanent American staff are always on site as well as the local "wardens." We have NEVER had an issue of violence or any safety issues that have affected our volunteers who work in the prison.
Tutoring with our After school program
This program currently runs at three local Primary Schools and has 105 kids. Tutoring takes place three times a week. One day at each of the schools from 2-4 p.m. Our local volunteers has a "curriculum" of sorts that they follow, which corresponds to the local teachers teaching schedule. They are also available to answer specific questions for issues that students may be struggling with.
Vocational Training
Any vocational skills that may be taught to individuals or groups during the time of your stay is greatly appreciated.
Medical Assistance
Volunteers may assist with medical care at a local orphanage. You may also be able to volunteer at one of our local hospitals. You will have the opportunity to have hands on experience.
Agriculture
Assist with one of our many agricultural projects. This could vary from creating a community garden, assisting with work in one of our ministry gardens, assistance at the poultry, goat rearing, etc. You are welcome to TEACH different aspects of agriculture as well.
Women's Empowerment
We have various groups of women that you can help teach, train and mentor.
Carpentry/Building/Plumbing
Various building projects, light construction and home repair opportunities are available.
Do you have skills that you may not see listed here? Volunteer opportunities are not limited to what you see on this list, this is only a sample of places available to work. Contact us for additional opportunities!
All opportunities are available for 10 day - 1 year assignments. We recommend a minimum of two weeks for the best experience for our volunteers.
